Officially named Rokuon-ji, The Golden Pavilion is one of the most lavish temples I have ever seen. It’s actually golden and very, very shiny. I can only imagine how it must look with the sun shining – I bet sunglasses would be needed.
We went early, and it was packed. School kids all over the place running around getting more and more hyper as the golden from the temple became brighter. I should say here that this was also happening to me. I also want to add that the entrance ticket was probably the best ticket I have ever bought.
The complex was actually really large and once we passed the temple we entered a lovely market where the matcha (green tea) had gold flecks in it and traditional Kyoto delicacies could be sampled and purchased. Which is exactly what Sister and I did.
