Last week was Sister’s birthday! (Happy birthday Sister) so on Friday we celebrated by making our way to Cafe Chula in Camden. Their ethos is to bring tasty, authentic Mexican food and drinks to London (and Camden specifically) and I couldn’t wait to try it.
Spiced Mexican Coffee was the first thing I ordered because it sounded absolutely delicious I a love spices, coffee, and cream. I knew the coffee would have cloves (not my favourite flavour) but I did find that taste to be slightly overpowering. I would have liked more cinnamon in the coffee itself rather than just on the cream.
For starters we had their tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. I love avocado in all it’s forms but guacamole is right up there as being one of my favourite things ever.
This was Sister’s drink or choice – the El Dorado which was vanilla tequila with lime, orgeat syrup, blueberries, and passion fruit.
While I went for a Bloody Maria – El Jimador Blanco, tomato juice, spices, lime, and a salt rim.
Both drinks were absolutely delicious though I did find mine very strong (this really isn’t saying much). For mains I went with their tostadas with a side order of refried beans which really was delicious. my dish also came with rice and I would have liked the rice to have more seasoning in it.
I loved the atmosphere in Cafe Chula – it was relaxed and fun and there were almost 15 of us being loud and having a great time. The staff were really friendly and very pleasant. I would definitely go back – if only to try more things from their drinks menu!
