Kale Juice

I am so late on this bandwagon, I know I am. Kale has been throned and then de-throned as the superfood of the moment. I’m not sure what holds the title now – avocado? coconut? – but I don’t think it’s kale. Sure people still juice it and drink it and they make pesto out of it (me) and put it in their salads, but it’s not the cool kid on the block is it? Which is probably the perfect time for me to juice it and see what it tastes like.

First thing, I didn’t have kale on its own. I had it with a very, very ripe banana and an apple. Secondly kale has a really inoffensive taste doesn’t it? All I could taste was banana and apple and even they weren’t all that powerful. Kale juice tasted like not much at all which is probably why I had no problem drinking two glasses last night and one this morning. But the colour is magnificent isn’t it? I really didn’t expect it to be such a stunning green. To be frank I thought it would look like greenish pond water.

If you want to make your own kale juice this is my recipe:

1 bag of kale

1 apple

1 ripe banana

Next time I do this I will definitely add more apple and more banana. And some lemon juice or something. If you have a kale juice recipe you can recommend then let me know. I like this but I want more flavour! Mint? Kale and mint? What about adding some ginger?
