I have some news: I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon! This is very unexpected and with only a month to go before the race I have very realistic goals but I AM RUNNING THE ROYAL PARKS HALF MARATHON! It all started with an email from Nike asking if it would be something I would be interested in running. I dithered for about 3 minutes before replying back with a ‘YES PLEASE’.
It’s not a secret to any of you that I run with Nike a lot. I go to most of their run clubs and a lot of their training clubs too. I love the atmosphere they create and the community they foster. Through them I have become so much fitter and a lot more determined. I have also made some incredible friends. What is truly incredible is that almost every single event is free and they are always incredibly welcoming to new people. If you’re based in London and want to try something the URL is nike.com/London.
When they emailed me with this opportunity I had to sit back and take stock of my life. It had gone from wonderful to wonderfully active with emails from Nike about the Royal Parks Half Marathon. I don’t know when this change happened but I am so, so grateful. I genuinely don’t think I’ll get this opportunity again (ballots have never been my friend) and had to take it.
However there are only four weeks’ to go before the race and there is only so much training I can do in a month whilst also having a full time job and loving rest days. So I have set a goal time of 2 hours and 15 minutes for myself. I think this is perfectly achievable with my current level of training and fitness. More than this because this race is a bonus I want to thoroughly enjoy it. I also have my own personal pacer throughout the race so I don’t even have to clock watch!
This is my first ever half marathon and I really can’t wait. After the Paris Marathon I didn’t sign up for anything new in my 2016 race calendar. I have missed the environment and can’t wait to be on that start line in October.
