My top 10 reasons why I love working out at home

With running still not a possibility for me (soon, so soon!) I wanted to get my sweat fix without having to spend a fortune on a gym membership or classes. So I have embraced working out at home and here are my top 10 reasons why I think you should also give it a go, if you haven’t already.

  1. You save money

There are more important things to spend money on, especially at this time of the year, then a gym membership. Gym memberships cover everything that gym offers. But honestly speaking how often do you take advantage of all their classes and equipment?

  1. You save time and can exercise when you want to

Not having to travel and pack a bag for the gym or for a class saves a ridiculous amount of time. I can roll out of bed, pull on some gym clothes and be sweating soon after. Also, if you are anything like me you only realise you’ve forgotten something, like a change of underwear, when you reach the gym.

  1. Comfort levels are sky high

My home is my comfort zone and I hope you all feel the same about where you live. There isn’t an awkward changing room moment when you try not to meet anyone’s eye even though you have now seen the naked, or any equipment etiquette on the gym flood. At home you can do what you like, take up as much room as you like, and be as loud as you like.

  1. You have better concentration

Some people see the gym as a chance to meet and catch up with old friends, or as a way to tell you that you’re exercising incorrectly. Sometimes all you want to do is work out and sweat. At home there is no one who will disturb you.

  1. It’s the best way to achieve the workout you want

In the gym you sometimes have to wait for the piece of equipment you want to become free. I remember once being in a hotel in Birmingham for work and going to their very small gym where there was an actual standing queue to use the treadmill.

  1. You can watch whatever you want to watch on TV and listen to your choice of music

Not having to listen to someone else’s playlist and actually being able to change the channel to something which interests you is a massive perk of working out at home.

  1. It’s you verses you

At home you compete with no one other than yourself. You aren’t trying to impress that random stranger in the corner or trying to compete with them. You take this away and you also don’t worry about what other people think of you.

  1. Circuit training

I have tried circuit training in a gym and unless it is part of an organised class I have found it so difficult to do. At home it is my choice of exercise and equipment and it fits in with a training plan and goal I have in mind.

  1. Good quality equipment

The equipment you have at home, the stuff you have bought for yourself always seems to be better than what’s in the gym. What you have is cost effective rather than just being fancy and expensive.

And the number 1 reason to work out at home?

  1. The kitchen

Recovery and hydration and rest is so close, you could probably throw yourself there after a workout.
