In early May I ran 10k with the Lady Garden, a gynaecological charity aiming to raise awareness for gynaecological cancers. They want women to stop being embarrassed about their bodies and start talking to people about any gynaecological concerns they might have.

This is the second year of Lady Garden and while I completely missed out on it last year, I made sure I could run this year. This year they also had two running distances – a 5k and a 10k. I signed up for the 10k. I am now quite comfortably running 5k distances again but 10k? The last time I ran a 10k was for the Winter Run when my goal was to finish and not be in too much pain. Now I wanted to run it in under an hour and to run it without stopping.

run-london_48In the running calendar Winter is usually the season when people take a break from the races and concentrate on recovering and building muscles and speed. However, over the past few years The London Winter Run has made the cold snaps a little more interesting – to put in mildly! Excitingly I will be running this 10k, the second time I have done so, with a whole host of wonderful friends and bloggers. And it would be amazing if you could join us too.

I mentioned previously how expensive I think races have become which is why in 2016 I have only signed up for two races so far, one of which is the Paris marathon and I paid for that last year. I am sure this will increase (especially once Nike announces their run series) but as things stand right now, last weekend I ran the only run I had planned for 2016 bar the marathon: the Battersea Park 10k. Organised by RunThrough.co.uk it was affordable, brilliantly organised, and all kinds of amazing.

On Saturday the 28th of November London Midnight Runners organised a 24 hour relay run to raise money for Syrian Refugees. At the time of running they had raised more than £10,000! There was no way I couldn’t be involved with something so wonderful. Participants didn’t have to run for the full 24 hours but could choose to do as many 10k / hour slots as they wanted. I decided to run just before midday and couldn’t wait.
