Birthdays are glorious things and when I celebrated my #DirthyThirty earlier this month I was determined to have a good time. This is supposed to be a milestone birthday, when I welcome actual adulthood into my life and become an adult. The pressure was on and I wasn’t quite sure exactly what would happen. After all just how much fun can you have if the actual goal is to be in bed by 10pm?

On Saturday the 7th of November I celebrated my birthday with a 10k run. I’m sure many of you think there are better ways of celebrating your birthday (some of which I did after the run) but I wanted to do a run on my birthday so badly and that’s how I found myself in the rain and wind in the Olympic Park waiting for the gun to go off.

This year as my birthday draws closer I found myself sitting in a corner and questioning why this was happening to me. Why? Why me? Why now? WHY? Always going back to the why. Why, why, why? And then I realised it’s because I’m a bad ass (arse since I am English?) and that getting older is actually quite epic.

And though my birthday isn’t for a few days yet, my family and I celebrated over the weekend and marked this occasion with a party which I thought would be normal. Instead when I came home from work I found that Doctor Sister had turned the whole house into Hogwarts and that my party would be Harry Potter themed.
