New Years Resolutions are to me what running a marathon is to other people – something only those who want to fail do. I have through so much of my adult life believing this. Losing weight, being healthier, quitting smoking – why does everyone want to do all of these on January the 1st at the same time? Aren’t you just setting yourself up to fail?
What I never thought would happen, has actually happened: we have entered 2017. January is the time for resolutions and goals but over the past few years I have instead been setting myself more achievable, much smaller targets. And these 7 Things posts have really helped me to focus every month and incrementally they result in bigger changes. So without further ado, here are my 7 Things for January!
Dearest Rosh, it’s that time of year again. Here are some things for 2017.
You survived 2016. Pat yourself on the back because it was so rough at times.
Stretch every day. Run as often as you can. It is precious and a gift. Try to relax when you can’t run. It doesn’t matter if you don’t.
Sleep earlier than you plan too. Your skin functions better with sleep. All your organs function better. You’re also a lot less angry when you’ve slept well.
Treat food as delicious, delicious fuel. Save overeating for the special occasions and starving for horror stories. Take photos of your food. Even when it looks ugly. (Even of it never goes on instagram. Not everything is about instagram).
Every year I am surprised when December arrives. In fact I am always surprised when Winter arrives. Until the temperature drops and the frost sets in, it always feels like a far flung concept.; something that won’t actually happen. But it has happened! And the start of the new month means I have a new 7 Things List – the last of 2016.
Is anyone else having trouble believing that it’s already July? I loved writing about my hopes for June and definitely want to make it a regular feature on my blog. So without further ado, here’s what I am hoping for and looking forward to in July!
