Usually I sign up for races well in advance and then train and panic for them (in equal measure) for months. This one was a little different. I signed up to run the inaugural London 10 Mile 8 days before the start. I don’t think I have ever been so impulsive when it comes to my running before. Usually there are many reasons and excuses as to why I can’t sign up for one at such short notice. This time there were none.

Bao buns are booming in London and instead of Taiwanese style Bao buns, Bun House serves Chinese style buns. This means that instead of being open, they are closed. Stretching the truth on Instagram…we all do that don’t we? We pretend we ‘woke up like this’ when really it took 35 minutes to get the pillow creases from our face. No one wants to see pillow creases. What Katie Brenner does in Sophie Kinsella’s My Not So Perfect Life is take that one step further. She takes pictures of other people’s food and coffees when they are in the loo and posts it.

Yes. She does that.

When I read that I realised I couldn’t quite relate to Katie Brenner as much as I probably should have.

Recently I woke up on a Saturday morning and decided that I didn’t particularly want a coffee that day. While at work it’s easy to buy – and I am a coffee buyer rather than a coffee maker – but at home going to a coffee shop is never all that important. So I decided to not bother and didn’t think much of it.

And that’s when the headache started. The mother of ALL  headaches and worse than anything I had had before. It lasted the whole day. At first I didn’t know what had caused it: I’d slept well and woken refreshed. It was also tormenting me on Sunday – and that when I realised I was going through coffee withdrawal.

And that was it. I stopped drinking caffeine.

A couple of weeks’ ago I ran my first 10k of 2017, my first 10k after injury – the Cancer Research London Winter Run 2017. I had been nervous and excited about running it and when registration opened didn’t actually plan to. However when Elle from Keep It SimpELLE  gave me the chance to run it along with other bloggers, I knew I couldn’t say no. Mainly because I really, really wanted to do it!
